The Grolier Club Library
THE GROLIER CLUB OF NEW YORK has fostered interest in
the book arts for over one hundred years, through
exhibitions, publications, lectures, and--perhaps most
importantly--through the formation of a research Library
devoted to the arts of the book.
From its modest beginnings as a cooperative reference
collection for the Club's bibliophile membership, the
Library has grown to almost one hundred thousand volumes,
and today welcomes any qualified researcher needing to
explore its collection of books and manuscripts
on printing and related book arts.

RENOVATION
WORK AT THE GROLIER
CLUB &
ACCESS TO THE LIBRARY
May 15, 2008
Dear Colleagues,
Please be advised that the Grolier Club will be
undergoing extensive renovations from June 2 through
September 1, 2008. While the building is under
renovation, there will be only very limited access to
Library collections, and some parts will be completely
inaccessible until the work is completed. Extended
research in the Library may not be possible during this
time. As usual, the Club will be closed the entire month
of August.
Visitors should note that the
renovations will affect library collections and services
only: the ground floor exhibition hall will be open to
the public without interruption.
The Grolier Club acknowledges and apologizes for any
inconvenience this may cause. Questions or concerns
should be directed to:

THE 2008 GROLIER
CLUB LIBRARY FELLOWSHIPS
Thanks to the generosity of two anonymous
donors, the Grolier Club Library was able to grant two
fellowship awards this year:
-
Dr. Douglas
Tallack (School of American & Canadian
Studies, University of Nottingham, Nottingham NG7
2RD, UK) will investigate published images of New
York, their commissioning, delivery and
presentation. His research at the Club will focus on
the archives of the Society of Iconphiles.
-
Dr. Mark R.
M. Towsey (Institute of Historical Research,
University of London, Senate House, Malet Street,
London WC1E 7HU, UK) will be
researching public reception of the works of the
Scottish Enlightenment as reflected in private and
public libraries. He will be making use of the
Grolier Club’s collections of bookseller, book
auction, and private library catalogues.

THE GROLIER CLUB LIBRARY COLLECTIONS
The Grolier Club Library is a focused research
collection of approximately 100,000 volumes on
the art and history of the book, with particular
strength in book catalogues of all types --
printed and manuscript inventories of private
libraries, catalogues of antiquarian
booksellers, and book auction sales. The Grolier
Club Library collections of book catalogues are
among the most comprehensive in the US, and have
long been recognized as an important resource
for collectors and scholars in book history. For
further information about the Library, as well
as an online catalogue of its holdings, click on
the appropriate links in the menu at upper
left.
A detailed survey of the collections of the
Grolier Club Library can be found in Lasting
Impressions: The Grolier Club
Library, published to accompany the
exhibition
held at the Club May 11-July 31,
2004.
